The Ruwer
The Ruwer region is tiny, compared to the Mosel valley. Its
reputation rests on two of the greatest estates for fine Riesling in all of
Germany: the Maximin Grünhaus estate of the von Schubert family, and the
Tyrell's Karthäuserhof. (The latter is back on track after a wobbly period in
the 80s, when scandal cast a cloud over it.) Lying on opposite sides of the
valley, their wines are quite different, yet both can produce rieslings of
magical feligree, breed, and elegance.
Other notable Ruwer wines come from
the village of Kasel.
